
Overview
On April 1, 2026, a magnitude 7.4 earthquake struck the Molucca Sea off the coast of Northern Sulawesi, Indonesia, with an epicenter near the Batang Dua Islands at a depth of 35 km. The quake damaged or destroyed over 450 structures, with 104 homes collapsed and 1,966 people displaced in the Batang Dua Islands. In nearby Manado, a Siloam Hospital was seriously damaged along with five government buildings and a hotel. A small tsunami of up to 75 cm was recorded in North Minahasa Regency, with tsunami alerts lifted within hours. One person was killed after a sports centre collapsed; four others were injured. More than 921 aftershocks followed, with the largest at magnitude 6.2. World Central Kitchen teams deployed immediately to serve meals to impacted families in affected communities, working with local restaurant partners.
