Overview
On September 1, 2025, a 6.0 magnitude shallow earthquake struck the Eastern Afghanistan provinces of Kunar and Nangarhar. The quake was felt as far as Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and India, with USGS reporting over 1.2 million people felt the earthquake and its five significant aftershocks. The shallow depth of the quake amplified its destructive power, collapsing mud-brick homes across rural villages. Access to affected areas was severely limited due to ongoing security concerns and damaged roads. Humanitarian organizations faced significant challenges delivering aid in the complex operating environment.
