Overview
Over a two-week period in August 2025, more than 350 earthquakes were felt across Guatemala, creating widespread panic and significant structural damage. Hundreds of homes experienced extreme damage, forcing families into displacement. The swarm of seismic activity was particularly devastating in rural indigenous communities where adobe construction is common. Relief organizations deployed to provide emergency shelter, food, and psychosocial support to affected families, many of whom were sleeping outdoors out of fear of further collapses.
